Artists: David Slonim

David Slonim grew up in New Jersey where his family enjoyed weekends at their log cabin in the Kittatiny Mountains. "I remember the mist on the lake in the early morning, the haunting song of the wood thrush in the cedars, and the smell of the local peach orchard. As an adult, those kinds of impressions are the things that drive me to paint."

David now lives in Indiana with his wife, Bonnie and their four children. His oils are based on observation and memory of everyday subjects, often exploring the line between representation and abstraction, He draws inspiration from a wide variety of masters, including Cezanne, Diebenkorn, Wyeth, Degas, and Levitan.

David earned a bachelor's degree in illustration from Rhode Island School of Design in 1988. For ten years he created images for clients like IBM, UPS, Tony's Frozen Pizza, and T.G,I.Friday's. Between freelance illustration jobs, he began to paint in ils, turning to fine art full time in 1998. David also writes and illustrates children's books, which are available at online and traditional booksellers.
