Artists: Howard Friedland
Howard Friedland was born in Bronx, New York and has lived in Miami, Fl, and Taos, NM. He studied fine art and commercial art at New York's High School of Music and Art. He then attended college at Cooper Union School of Art and Architecture in New York's Greenwich Village. Howard has studied painting with Ned Jacob, Michael J. Lynch, Mark Daley, Laura Robb, and Matt Smith.
Oil Painters of America inducted Howard as a Signature Member into their organization in 2003. He and his wife Susan Blackwood have been featured in the Master Painters of the World section of the International Artists Magazine. He has painted, taught and exhibited extensively in New Mexico, Colorado, Montana, Arizona, and Florida, as well as Mexico, France, Italy, England, Spain and Portugal.
"The challenge for me is always to see the world with fresh eyes and respond spontaneously to the beauty before me. I prefer to paint only enough for the viewer to get a clear vision of what the subject is and suggest the rest."
Howard participates annually in the Oil Painters of America National Show and Sale; the CM Russell Auction of Original Western Art; and is a charter member of the Montana Painter's Alliance.
