Artists: Jayme Mitchell
Jayme was born in 1986 in San Bernardino, CA and moved to Billings, Montana when she was 2 years old. She has always had an interest in art which was fueled by her artistic family members - her father and uncle were both gifted artists. Her interests include the vast spectrum of the arts - from music and movies to paintings, drawings and sculpture. It is the emotion behind the work that most inspires and moves her. Jayme is an emerging artist, on the brink of a career that will produce a body of important works for our time.
"To understand my art you need to know that I'm more interested in the emotions that we feel as we move through the struggles and storms of life...to find the good worth fighting for. it's when we are the most vulnerable and humble that we find what truly matters. I try to convey such aspects in my art. My work is also about the medium itself and what it does on the canvas or paper. I'm interested in mixing media with paint because it's like adding ingredients to make a recipe but th end result is a surprise every time. In my contour drawings I am more interested in the essence, emotion and feeling in the human figures and what they are doing than in the physical accuracy of them. I create when I am moved to do so and in this way, it feels the most real to me. Painting and drawing are both freeing and very therapeutic for me in a world that constantly wants but never finds perfection. I believe God gave me a desire for creating in these ways so I intend to serve through this gift and passion." ~ Jayme Mitchell
