Artists: Robert Kuester

Robert Kuester was born in Red Oak, Iowa in 1940. As a child, Robert was more involved in music and it wasn’t until his college years that he developed a strong interest in art. Robert entered Drake University where he spent two years studying art and went onto obtain a BFA from the Fine Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles. After spending a required two years as an artist for the US Army Headquarters in Heidelberg, Germany, he returned to the States to pursue a career in art.
Robert spent a short while in New York before traveling to Detroit where he had the opportunity to illustrate and paint portraits for numerous national accounts such as CBS, Fox, and Double Day. In fact, his portrait of actor Milborne Stone is now part of the permanent collection of the National Cowboy Hall of Fame in Oklahoma City, OK. These achievements propelled Kuester forward with his art career and sparked new interest in the world of American western art.
In July of 1986, Kuester relocated to New Mexico and toured the countryside painting the beauty of the landscape on canvas. Robert’s subjects are varied and include still-life, figurative, landscapes and commissioned portraits.
Robert has won many awards for his work including the Oil Painters of America Best of Show, Award of Excellence, and the Union League Awards. His work has been featured in many publications including Southwest Art and Art of the West. Robert’s work is in the collection of the National Cowboy Hall of Fame, Mr. & Mrs. Harley Brown, Irby Brown, Ron Riddick, Shelly Duvall, and Corporate Collections world-wide.
